Automated O-Ring Inspection Bot

O-rings are manufactured in huge volumes, thereby rendering manual inspection well-nigh impossible. The answer is an Automated Optical Inspection vision system to dimension and inspect the O-rings. The system will segregate the O-rings into “accepts” and “rejects” using machine vision algorithms.
What our OIB can do
OIB can check the O-rings for dimensional tolerances and detect certain predetermined defects, which occur frequently.
Dimensions handled(in mm/microns)
Defects/ characteristics detected
Orifice dia
Peripheral indentation pits
External dia
Surface cracks or surface pits
Inner and outer flash
Other punching defects
thickness(height)
Inner cut validation
System configuration
Hardware
Vibratory bowl to load the O-rings
Rotating Disc to receive and place O-rings in camera range
Cameras to capture images from several angles
Pneumatic ejectors to remove “rejects” from assembly line
Bins to catch “Accept” and “Reject” O-rigs
Software

1. Will collect images and check with library/master acceptance criteria
2. Process algorithms will “decide” whether to “accept” or “reject”
3. Will allow configurability based on model of the O-rings and Machine parameters
Features and Flexibility

* Speed of inspection 4 parts per second based on O-ring sizes
* Single operator driven, independent of PC access
* Alarm indication for O-rings in the bowl < threshold level
* Configurable image processing functionality
* Editable measurement limits
User related
* Authentication feature for different levels of users
* Report generation in user friendly formats like Excel/PDF with SPC and bar charts
High Level Specifications
Here is an example of the OIB implemented by us for a typical user, based on the characteristics of their factory output. If you provide us the data corresponding to your factory output, we can customize for your specifications. Feel free to add any other parameter you feel would be necessary to meet with your specific requirements. There is a mechanism described below to send in your specific O-ring images if you feel that is necessary.
Commonly Asked Questions:

1) Can I2SeeBots confirm feasibility, accuracy, resolution and costs for my specific objects under inspection?
A: Yes. Use the button in the bottom of this page to upload cellphone-snapped images of your O-rings or Unit Under Inspection for I2SeeBots to confirm this and provide you with 2-day feedback

2) How does the cost of the OIB compare with building my own solution:
A: I2SeeBots is an expert in Industrial Machine Vision. The first time we built this solution for a customer, it took roughly 4-5 man months of experimentation and implementation to build a rugged, error proof system. We are confident, buying the bot will be less expensive and significantly quicker than building and perfecting your own

3) Will I be able to retain design and source code files for the solution?
A: NibbleWise will provide mechanical design files and a licensing mode to scale system across lines. However, if you require the ability to customize the solution, I2SeeBots may also be able provide source code at a commensurate cost for use within your organization.
