Automated Oil Filter Inspection Suite for Automotive, Aerospace
There are a number of dimensional and physical attributes that impact the quality of oil filters that roll out of automotive and aerospace assembly lines. I2SeeBots provides software, design and if needed, mechanical assembly for a 6-stage indexed automated inspection solution that inspects the oil filter visually from different camera angles and enables quality control. The different parameters inspected/measured and evaluated for pass/fail are as follows:
-
Diameter of Oil Filter
-
Number of Inlet Holes (dimensioning also possible)
-
Check Valve Presence (dimensioning also possible)
-
Relief Valve Presence (dimensioning also possible)
-
Height with and without gasket
-
Seam Height
-
Gasket Protrusion
-
Screen Print Correctness and Print Quality on the cylindrical surface
The solution has been installed, validated and is operational at production lines at Tier-2 Automotive Manufacturers. I2SeeBots will provide consultancy on retrofitting or adapting the solution to your specific production line or line automation setup.
The system has a calibration mode that allows benchmarking against the factory setup for camera working distance, skew, quality of focus etc. and offering advice to restore the factory conditions if needed.
The system is based on a rotary indexing setup with six indexing positions. A filter emerges from the unloading end and enters from the loading end simultaneously. A filter can roll out of the inspection setup every 4 seconds. At any given time, four of the six indexing positions can have filters in place. The indexing positions are for the following purposes:

Indexing Position#. Purpose
1. Manual Loading (can be replaced by automatic loading)
2. Idle
3. Side View- Area Scan and LineScan
4. Top View- Area Scan
5. Good Filter Unload
6. Bad Filter Unload

Commonly Asked Questions:

1) Can I2SeeBots confirm feasibility, accuracy, resolution and costs for my specific oil filters?
A: Yes. Use the button in the bottom of this page to get contact information where you can send cellphone-snapped images of your oil filters and/or CAD drawings for I2SeeBots to confirm these aspects for your specific filters and provide you with 2-day feedback

2) How does the cost of this bot compare with building my own solution:
A: I2SeeBots is an expert in Industrial Machine Vision. The first time we built this solution for a customer, it took roughly 8 man months of experimentation and implementation to build a rugged, error proof system. We are confident, buying the I2SeeBots system will be less expensive and significantly quicker than building and perfecting your own

3) To what extent can the bot adapt to varieties in Oil Filter Sizes and dimensions?
A: The standard Bot design we have already incorporates x- and x-y stages for the optics and handling mechanics to work with a wide range of Oil Filter sizes. For the mechanical arrangement, we can supply you the vision equipment and the software while you design your mechanicals based on our design as a starting point, if you would like to reduce cost. For instance, the top and side view cameras may need to adjust their working distance to cover the desired field of view based on the size. Moreover, the spinning arrangements for the print inspection on the filter also needs to accommodate different diameter sizes. While these are part of our standard design, different aspects of our design may not be relevant for you if the variety in filter dimensions and form factor is not significant. In tis case, we can simplify the design for your need or you can build the mechanicals yourself and buy our software and imaging equipment.
