I2SeeBots' Automated Spark Plug Inspection Bot enables End of Line Quality Control of Automobile or Aircraft Spark plugs.

Correct sparking distance is critical in the production quality assurance of an automobile spark plug. There are three key dimensional parameters that affect the functional performance of a spark plug. The key parameters are as follows:

​

  1. Eccentricity between the outer housing profile and the inner electrode (Top View)

  2. Offset between the earth electrode and the center of the inner electrode (Top View)

  3. Spark Plug gap between inner electrode and inner housing profile (Lateral View)

I2SeeBots's Spark Plug Vision bot is a two-camera system that can be integrated with a spark plug production line. The system requires an approximate 75ms static imaging window (plug should be stationary for about 75ms). This is based on a 4MP area scan camera for the top view and a 2MP area scan camera for side view. 

​

  1. Accepts a digital trigger and actuate a set of digital signals based on dimensions within or outside limits

  2. Software-Configurable for eccentricity, offset and gap limits

  3. Has a mode to calibrate the imaging conditions using a calibration target. Once the conditions have been benchmarked, it is possible re-enter the calibration mode wherein the solution will provide advice on camera working distance, skew, focus adjustment etc. that will allow one to restore the optimal imaging conditions.

  4. Web-based Statistical information available on production status and trends. Or can interface with factory systems for the same.

If the encoder and ejector signaling, mechanical mounting considerations are consistent with our off the shelf design, then the extent of onsite support needed may even be zero and the integration could possibly be remote-managed through meetings and a good remote desktop internet connectivity.
